Ariel Loraine Rush was born to a pure blooded Wizarding couple nearly 200 years ago. The baby girl was the pride and joy they had always hoped for. You see they had been unable to conceive for several years and just when they had given up, they were blessed with Ariel. The little girl grew up to be a strong independent child, not wanting to hold her mothers hand when they were out and about or listening to her when she said to stay close. Ariel was always a head strong little girl climbing tree's and scrapping her knee's even if it wasn't very lady like. Life growing up was simple and pleasant. At least she couldn't say anything bad about her childhood. Those were perhaps some of the happiest years of her life.
As most witches do at the age of 11 she received her letter to Hogwarts. A exciting new adventure lay before her. With the fresh smell of parchment and books in her hands she was set to attend the school that would send her to her future, wherever that may be. Her ambition, quick thinking and independent nature landed her in the Slytherin house. Ariel could have been described as a decently nice person with a bit of a temper. If she didn't have a problem with you she would treat you cordially and with respect. Though she never took much stock into the etiquette lessons her parents put her through she at least retained that one thing.
Ariel was quite inquisitive at school and took the opportunities to learn and soak up what she could. Her favorite class was Herbology, you could say she had a bit of a green finger. Magical plants were just so interesting and she found them inspiring all the things you could do with them. You could save someones life or end it, mend broken bones and cure illnesses or make someone pass out and lose their hearing to the cry of a baby mandrake root. So many things to be done and so many things to find in the future. Of course she did well in most of her other classes, enjoying flying in particular but have no skills for quidditch. The witch wasn't bad at potions or DADA either. Now transfiguration was something she struggled with but still managed to do her best.
During her 5th and 6th year she received the Honer of being a Prefect and then was asked to be Head Girl her 7th year. It was during her 6th year that her love for Herbology made her decide to come back after her graduation to be a professors Aide for 3 years until that professor ended up retiring. Ariel's passion was teaching these students about plants even if some of them felt like it was a bit silly. It was a job she thoroughly enjoyed and never thought she would leave if she had the choice. However, at the age of 24 she received a opportunity to travel the world studying various plants and learning about new ones through the Ministry. Deciding that she couldn't pass it down she packed her bags and left. Traveling all over was crazy, and the oh the laces she got to see.
This decision was life altering and not in the way that she had expected or desired. It happened one night when she was in Italy. Completely drunk and lost she met a man, a very handsome man who easily drew her in. They flirted, they laughed and yes he took advantage of her very drunken state. That wasn't all he took though. That night was the night that changed everything. With a painful bite this mysterously handsome man changed her into a vampire. Of course at the time she had no idea what was going on, drunk and confused she passed out for a few hours. When she awoke, everything was different. Cravings for blood and urges that she she could not control, worst of all she was left to deal with her own devices. She started to kill at first as a means to survive, but in some twisted way it eventually became a game. That of Cat and Mouse. There was something so thrilling and dark about the chase that she could just not get out of her head. It wasn't long before her body count racked up, of course at first she didn't hide anything and panic in the small villages ensued. Eventually though she got smarter and would hide the bodies and would move from place to place.
This was a dark time for Ariel as she had no idea how to control any of this and in her confusion she had let a very dark side of her take over. For a while she started to struggle with what she was doing and where she was going. Sure being alone had its perks but it was starting to take a toll on her. Watching happy couples and people having a good time with their friends made her remember what it was like. Though not much changed until she met a man by the name of Joseph and fell in love, eventually the two would be married. It had been so long since she felt happiness like this. It wasn't easy and she struggled through every part of it but helped her get her head on straight and get some of her humanity back. The realization of everything that she had done really did hit her hard though. The guilt at times was unbearable. For 15 years she managed to live a happy life with Joe but the funny things with humans is that they age and get old and well she was forever 26. Her love for him faded and with nothing but a short note she left him one night, forever. Maybe it was a bit cold blooded but she had her reasons. Even if she was mostly happy with him, he had a tenancy to try and act as if the vampire part of her was not there and well that was something that was never going to change. Some times it made her feel even more shamed of herself, even if her vampirism wasn't exactly something she was proud of either, but it was who she was.
Leaving Italy she decided to return home, settling in a village not far from Hogsmeade. It was there she did her best to try and live a normal life. She made friends, fell in and out of love, drank, and worked meaningless jobs to afford a roof over her head. That's how life was for her for a long time, she was able to live mostly in peace. Switching from Human blood to animal blood as it isn't exactly easy to live among people that you kill. The switch was not easy by any means and it took a while to get used to it. There were quite a few slip ups at first but eventually she got used to it. The animal blood wasn't quite as filling but it kept her healthy and alive. Leading up to recent events she kept a pretty low key life, especially during the period of Voldemort. She chose not to fight against him or for him and went into basically hiding during his first spurt of power. During his Return she lived as normal but fear still clouded her brain as it did many others.
Now we come to the present. Ariel was approached by a friend at the Ministry for a very interesting opportunity. One that could change the world quite a bit if it succeeded. The chance to work with the potions professor at Hogwarts to create a Synthetic blood for vampire, and who knows what else this creation could help in the future. Considering her knowledge of plants and herbs and well the fact that she herself was a vampire they considered her to be of some use. There was one condition of course, she wanted her old Herbology teaching job back. It took some convincing but with the headmasters approval she was granted the job. Of course everyone was keeping a very watchful eye on her.
