[attr="class","box2"]An interesting proposition had landed in Tom's lap earlier that day from the Minister for Magic himself. A Ministry owl was found knocking at his classroom window with a small piece of parchment attached to its leg. Thomas promptly removed the parchment from its leg, letting the bird fly freely through the sky, back to the Minister. Nervously, Thomas unrolled the sun-kissed paper until it was pulled straight by either end. The small inscription read: Mr. Thomas Josiah Matthews, the Ministry of Magic is requesting your aid in a solution to our rising vampire epidemic. We have come to an agreement that if you succeed in creating such a solution you will be rewarded handsomely. Your reply is urgently needed.
A whirlwind of confusion soon spread through Tom's thoughts as he wondered what on Earth they could use his skills for. Placing the parchment aside, Tom called to his owl, Screech, and wrote his reply. He had agreed, though he was not sure as to what he was agreeing to. Thomas sighed and handed his reply to Screech who then left silently. Thomas had to put this matter aside before it drove him mad. He decided that it would be a good idea for an evening walk. Thomas walked over to the coat rack and removed his jacket before placing it upon his muscular body. The jacket smelled the same as when he had first been given it. A leather jacket owned by his grandfather. You see, he was sort of a rebel, which tended to run thick in the family genes. With one last look at his classroom, Thomas set off for his jaunt.
The sky was stained indigo with splashes of gray clouds, hinting at a light evening shower. The smell of rain wafted through the damp, crisp air of the autumn night. Thomas had no real destination in mind, though he had always been told by fellow classmates and colleagues alike that the Whomping Willow was a must-see at night. So, with that in mind, Thomas decided to let his feet guide him toward the majestic creature that was the willow. Thomas placed his hands in his coat pocket, retrieving a packet of cigarettes and muggle lighting device. He placed the cigarette between his lips and lit it. He inhaled and exhaled before placing the muggle lighting device back into his pocket. ocean blue eyes gazed up at the night sky as the stars danced together. A small smile crept along his lips as he continued to smoke.
Soon enough, Thomas reached his destination. His eyes fell upon the magnificent creature as it swayed back and forth, trying to rid itself of the birds it thought of as pets. Then another thought occurred to Thomas. Could this tree think? Could this tree know somehow what creatures to swat away and which to keep around? Thomas mulled over the thought in his mind, extinguishing his cigarette on the fence in front of him. He leaned against it, watching the beautiful tree in all its glory.

Her delicate fingers brushed up against the stone walls of the castle as she aimlessly walked the corridors. To say the least it was strange to be back at Hogwarts after close to 500 years. Ariel never thought her foot steps would grace these halls again. At one point it had been her home away from home, she loved the place so much that when she graduated she came right back to aide and then teach a few years before her dreaded accident. She thought coming back would be a very happy moment for her and it was, yet there was something gloomy lingering in the background. It wasn't easy being here and knowing that the parents were not thrilled that she was here and that every eye was on her, seemingly waiting for her to fail. So why had she even bothered to come back? Truth be told she was looking for purpose once again, something meaningful in her life. Teaching and working with plants was her passion and something she enjoyed even if a bit ironic. Of course there was that bit about finding a alternative to blood or a synthetic if you will.
Ariel had been skeptic to this idea but decided to see where it could go. Only knowing that even the change from human to animal blood had been very difficult, she wasn't sure how well the idea of "fake" blood would take among her fellow vampires. The bigger question was if it would even be possible? Apparently the Ministry had hoped that by sticking a Herbology professor with the Potions Professor some miracle would be made. You can't succeed if you don't at least try. Ariel had only been at the castle a few days and had not said much to any one as of yet, in fact she probably couldn't put names to any of the professors faces. Things would get better as every one got settled into their classes and the school year really took off. The buzzing of students and all the magical events that went on here had always been one of her favorite things about this place. Eventually it would feel like home again, right?
Slipping on her jacket she decided a nice walk outside was just what she needed to clear her head and get her mind set in the right place. Strange as it sounded she always found solace escaping to the parts of the grounds that were deemed unsafe by most. The Whomping Willow was a tree that she had heard quite a bit about recently and it had peaked her interests quite a bit. The walk there was a bit of a stretch but they couldn't have something so dangerous too close to students either. It was a nice peaceful walk anyways as she took comfort in the dark even with the smell of pending rain. Lost in her own thoughts she had hardly noticed that she had come upon a man also admiring the tree. Stopping at his side, not thinking that someone approaching him suddenly might startle him. It's beautiful isn't it? she asked. God she was such a nerd when it came to plants, if you let her she would probably talk your head off......guess that was something that made her good at being a teacher. It was beautiful, mysterious and posed so many questions that she wanted the answers too. If only the tree had been on the grounds 500 years ago she may have had the chance to get many of those questions answered long ago.
Briefly taking her eyes off of the tree she glanced at the man to her side. Yes, he was handsome and somewhat familiar but he had been no more than a passing face in the hall up until now. His blue eyes took her in for a moment but she was quickly diverted back to the tree which soft swaying sound of branches was actually quite soothing. I don't believe we have met, I'm Professor Rush, Ariel Rush she said awkwardly. Never was she good at introductions or interacting with people for that matter out of the classroom.
